Art Extension (Juniors)

We have been learning about using different Art media to create a masterpiece!

Last week we learned about water colour paints. Today we learned that there is a difference between types of pastels! We used oil pastels to create lines. We also used felts and paints to make dots.

Next week we are excited to learn about using chalk pastels to complete our artwork!

Room 9 - 'I am" Poems

Today Mrs Manuyag was relieving in Room 9. So instead of doing just Art, we also combined Art with Writing!

First, we learned about how to create personifications and similes. Then we wrote some "I am" poems that describe us. It was funny trying to think of personifications and similes to describe ourselves.

Next, Mrs M took some photos of us to use in our art, and we published our poems on strips of paper. Then Mrs M taught us how to do creative circle backgrounds using pastels.

Lastly, we put all of artwork together. They have now been displayed in our classroom windows and we LOVE reading them in the morning when we are lining up!

Enjoy the photos, and enjoy reading the poems - we certainly enjoyed writing them!

Term 2, Room 3 - Banyan Trees!

*Room 3!* - (Year 2)

What an amazing class!

Today Room 3 moved away from New Zealand and learned about South Africa. Because we love colours we decided to explore using the colour wheel to create Banyan trees! This really was extending ourselves as we were learning to use paint, to paint accurately with paintbrushes, and to use pastels inside a line.

But we did it!

So
WALT: use pastels and colour inside the lines.
WALT:
use inspiration from nature to create artwork.
WALT: plan our artwork to use space creatively.
WALT: use the colour wheel to choose colours for effect.
Art Media: Oil Pastels, Sketching Pencils, Black Paint, Paint Brushes
Key words: Banyan trees, Paint Sketch, Outline

These have now been displayed in our school library!

Reflection

  • Our favourite part was colouring with the pastels and choosing our colours.
  • One part that we want to work on next time is our painting skills - as we found this really hard!
