Oil Paint Chaos!

WALT explore the new art media of oil paint!


MATERIALS/RESOURCES

• Oil Paint
• Card Strips
• Square Card Base
• Palettes (we use folded newspaper)

METHOD

1. Explanation about the important things to know when it comes to working with oil paint.

• Coming off clothing
• Coming off hands
• Smell
• Textured Quality

2. Children to come into room, taking a piece of newspaper, and a square of card. Name on back of card.

3. Children to gather around teachers table. Teacher to model taking three blobs of oil paint from the set up table, and putting them onto the palette. Teacher to model using strips of card to spread colours onto the base card, using sweeping slashes to create texture.

4. Children to try for themselves - they may use as many colours as they want, but it can look more effective with lighter colours on the top. 

5. Find somewhere sensible for the card to dry. It can take up to a week.

The Peace Project!

How lucky are we are Tamaki Primary School to be able to be part of the worldwide 'Peace Project!' We are participating in this in conjunction with the Panmure library in order to encourage peaceful relationships in our community.

Every Tuesday after school, Mrs Manuyag goes to the Panmure library to work with students from many different schools, and their families to create two murals that show what peaceful relationships look like to us in Panmure. Then on Thursdays, the children at Tamaki Primary school also work on THEIR two murals that are showing the same thing. 

The cool thing is that all four murals link together!

Next Tuesday, we will be showing our finished drafts to the Panmure Business Association, who are helping to fund our project, and then will begin to sketch the drafts onto the big boards, ready for painting! If you are free, come and join us in the Panmure library!

Room 5 - Marine Art

LEARN

• WALT to use the new art media "chalk pastels".
• WALT sketch a chosen marine animals.
• WALT fill in our marine animal with details. 

CREATE

Today Room 5 earned some art time! Together we created some AMAZING pieces of art that used the shape of a fish, 'doodle'-type detail, our names, and chalk pastel. We were very proud of what we created!

We have been learning how to manipulate and use clay to create some of the fish that we saw at Kelly Tarltons.

Middle School Art Extension

WALT use different art media to create a masterpiece!

Today the Year 3-4 Art Extension group met for the first time! Mrs Manuyag decided that before we learn how to use each type of art media with more depth and skill, we need to actually try out the media!

It was really fun today using the watercolour blocks to fill in our backgrounds. Next week we are excited to use oil paint vs acrylic paint!

Term 2, Room 4 - Picasso is in the House!

Picasso is in the house!

Today instead of learning about a new art media, we learned about a famous artist - Picasso. 
It was really interested learning about how he did his art, and the things that interested him.
We were surprised to find out that he loved using lots of colour in his art - just like us!

Firstly, we learned how to sketch realistic self-portraits. Then we went over our outlines in 
vivid, before cutting up our art into 8 pieces - this was a lot of fun!

After this, we using crazy colours to colour in our self-portraits! This was so much fun! It was 
really funny putting the artwork together and laughing at how we looked in multi-colour!

WALT: use the colour wheel to choose colours for effect.

Reflection: 

• Our favourite part was putting our art together and laughing at the result!
• The hardest part was keeping up the quality of our colouring with the pastels.
